Sometimes, time without dogs can be good.
As evidenced for us in a recent weekend escape to a state park lodge. It was a cozy late winter weekend filled with warm conversation and chilly, ice castled hikes.
The dogs? They stayed home with a sitter. It was the first time in two or three years that we had left them at home alone. And yes, we were nervous about it. But yes, they did fine.
Even with dogs, or maybe especially with dogs, absence does make the heart grow fonder. There's something about the sometimes "Three Stooges" nature of living with three dogs that seems a touch more charming when visualized from afar.
But, Curly, Larry and Moe or no, they are my dogs, my sitcom. And the feeling of coming home to them was just as wonderful as the thrill of going away.
